[Report of the Medical Officer of Health for Wood Green]

The Board of Education has recognised that, owing to the
abnormal conditions which have arisen out of the war with the
necessary disturbance of the regular work of the School Medical
Service, it is impossible for School Medical Officers to present reports
for 1939 on as comprehensive a scale as in normal years, while at
the same time the urgent need for economy makes it desirable to- keep
the cost of producing reports as low as possible. I have therefore
thought it right to confine myself as far as possible to supplying only
such information as is necessary to maintain the continuity of the
Report for 1939 with those of previous years. The statistics are
presented with the minimum of comment, and no attempt has been
made to describe in detail the work of the speoial services, dental,
ophthalmic, aural, etc. In every case these were unchanged from
former years, for the first eight months of the year, and I have
already briefly stated how far they were able to function after
September 3rd.
