XV.—SECONDARY SCHOOLS.
By arrangement between the Middlesex County and Wood
Green Education Committees, the routine and special inspections
of the pupils attending the two Secondary Schools in Wood Green
are carried out by Dr. Miller and myself. Defects found at inspections
are reported to the parents, who make their own arrangements
for treatment. In the case of dental defects and defects of vision,
treatment is provided at the School Clinic under an arrangement
made with the County Education Committee. The dental work is
done by Mr. MacBean, part-time Dental Officer, and the eye work
by Dr. Boden, the School Ophthalmic Surgeon. During the year,
seven hundred and six secondary pupils were medically inspected,
two hundred and ten received dental treatment, and ninety-eight
had spectacles prescribed.
XVI.—PARENTS' PAYMENTS.
No change has been made in the arrangements previously in
operation whereby parents make payments for certain forms of
treatment provided. Where the circumstances of the parents make
it difficult or impossible for them to meet these charges, the case
is reported to the Care Committee and the sum charged reduced or
waived.
XVII.—SCHOOL CLINIC.
In my Annual Report a year ago I was rash enough to express
my pleasure at the prospect of a new School Clinic being provided
in the very near future, and I expected that it would be in occupation
before the end of 1938. Unfortunately my hopes have not
been fulfilled and no appreciable progress appears to have been made
with the project although the plans were approved by the Board of
Education almost a year ago. It is very much to be hoped that a
commencement will soon be made in providing this much-needed
improvement.
In conclusion I would like again to express my appreciation of
the support and encouragement which the Education Committee
has at all times given to the work of the School Medical StaS. I
