Tuberculosis.
Table VII in the Appendix shows that the number of new
cases of tuberculosis coming to the knowledge of the Health Department
during the year was 61, 52 respiratory and 9 nonrespiratory.
Of these 52 were notified by doctors practising in
the district or from hospital, while 9 cases were transferred from
other districts. The number of notifications received in the previous
year was 78.
Twenty-four deaths were certified as due to tuberculosis, as
compared with thirty-five for the previous year and thirty-two
for 1933. Of these, twenty-three were due to respiratory and one
to non-respiratory disease. The death-rate from tuberculosis was
0.45 per 1,000 of population, as compared with 0.65 in 1934.
Of the twenty-four deaths which occurred, four were in persons
who had not previously been notified as cases of tuberculosis in this
district.
The arrangements for providing treatment for sufferers from
tuberculosis are in the hands of the County Council and Dr. J. R.
Dobson, the Tuberculosis Medical Officer, has kindly supplied
me with the following figures relating to cases from Wood Green
