Use has been made again during the year of the small handbooks
on health published by the Health and Cleanliness Council and written
specially for boys and girls leaving school. Copies of these are
given to every boy and girl on leaving school.
For the past few years advantage has also been taken of the
services of the lecturer provided by the Dental Board of the United
Kingdom. Visits are made to all the schools by the lecturer who
gives a lecture demonstration on dental hygiene, the early evidence
of dental decay and its prevention, and the importance of early
and adequate treatment. Considerable interest is aroused in the
children by these lectures, which cannot fail to be helpful.
19.—MISCELLANEOUS.
Under the bye-laws regulating the employment of children
and young persons, I have examined twenty children during the
year. Two were rejected on medical grounds and the others granted
employment certificates.
I have also as in former years examined a number of new
teachers on their appointment, and individual teachers from time
to time on the instructions of the Committee.
In concluding my Report, I desire again to express my thanks
to the Education Committee for its continued support and encouragement
of the school medical services, to the Director of Education
and his staff for assistance which is always readily given, and to
all the members of my own staff for their loyal and willing cooperation.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
MALCOLM MANSON,
School Medical Officer.
