Scavenging.
The Dust Destructor was erected during 1907, on the "Moat
House" site in Western Road, at a cost of £9,475, including the
buildings, furnaces, engine, dynamo and electric lighting. There
are six cells in two units of 3 each, each unit capable of destroying
45 tons of refuse in 24 hours, and is sufficient for dealing with the
whole of the refuse of the District.
Refuse is collected from each house in the District once each
week by means of horse-drawn vans, and all premises are provided
with galvanised iron dustbins with proper covering.
Trade refuse is collected from shop premises once each week,
a charge being made for removal of any refuse over and above three
to seven basketfuls, according to the establishment concerned.
A bathroom and mess-room are provided for the workmen in
connection with the Destructor.
The steam generated is utilised for heating the water for the
baths, working a disinfecting apparatus and providing electric
light for the baths and depot.

A spacious, covered-in Swimming Bath (100 ft. by 30 ft.) is
