WATER SUPPLY.
The District is supplied with a constant service of water by the
Metropolitan Water Board (New River District), water being laid
on to each house. The whole of the houses on the Noel Park Estate
have their supply direct from the main service pipe without any
storage cisterns. We are gradually getting the remaining houses
in the District to take a supply direct from the main service pipe
for dietary purposes. The number of houses which have been
provided with water for dietary purposes direct from the main
service during the years 1921 to 1925 inclusive, is 951.
There is no supply of water in the District other than from the
Metropolitan Water Board.
Watercourses.
There are two watercourses in the District, viz., the Muswell
Stream and the Moselle Brook.
The former takes the surface water from the Muswell Hill
District of Hornsey and Wood Green, and pursues a meandering
course from Hornsey on the West side of the District to Pymmes
Brook, Southgate on the North side of the District.
The Moselle Brook also takes surface water from Hornsey and
Wood Green, entering the District on the South side, flowing under
the High Road and leaving the District on the East side through
Tottenham.
The culverting of these two streams was completed during
1925, which had been the subject of report by the Medical Officer
of Health for some years past, and it is very satisfactory to be ableto
report that the work has now been completed.
The transition from open ditches to culverted streams will be
a great asset to the District, not only from a Public Health point
of view, but for the prevention of the flooding of certain roads
which used to take place during heavy rainfall, and has been the
subject of numerous complaints from ratepayers almost since the
