The Lordship Lane Centre was opened on the 3rd May, 1917:
the Trinity Road Centre in January, 1919; the Brook Road Centre
on the 1st August, 1919; and the Arcadian Gardens Centre on the
20th October, 1919.
It will be seen from the figures which 1 give below that the
centres have proved very popular, and that the attendances have
increased in a considerable degree.
Miss Wadds, who was primarily appointed as a nurse for
pneumonia and measles, has assisted during the year at the centres
and with the home visiting.
It is also satisfactory to note that the notifications of births
have risen to 94.66 per cent.
I have once more to thank the voluntary workers at the Child
Welfare Centres for their work in connection therewith, and must
mention that a Clothing Club has been started, by which mothers
pay in a small sum per week and receive garments for themselves
and children at cost price.
This has been greatly appreciated, and I have no doubt has
helped to make the centres more popular and encouraged the attendances
at the centres, which is one of the objects at which we aim.
The day on which the Annual Garden Party was given, in
connection with Baby Week, proved unfortunately to be wet, and
consequently we had to have an indoor meeting in the Trinity Hall,
Trinity Road, which was kindly lent free of charge by the Trustees,
and I have to acknowledge their kindness in this direction.
All arrangements had been made for the out-door party, and
having suddenly to alter our arrangements made a great deal of
work for the helpers in connection therewith.
