A special report on the Midwives Act will be found as Appendix G, the scheme as set out in
this report was adopted by the Willesden Council on the 26th January, 1937, and was subsequently
submitted to the Minister of Health for his approval. The Minister of Health, however, directed
the authority to make certain changes in the scheme as submitted.
The scheme, as amended in accordance with the Minister's directions, will be found as
Appendix G (II).
This amended scheme was approved by the Council on the 27th July, 1937, and was submitted
to the Minister of Health, who notified his approval in August, 1937. The scheme for Domiciliary
Midwifery in Willesden came into operation on the 31st October, 1937.
For the purpose of domiciliary Midwifery, Willesden is divided into two areas : (1) the South
Kilburn area and (2) the rest of Wiliesden. The South Kilburn area is allotted to Queen Charlotte's
Hospital District Home, 40, Princess Road, Kilburn, N.W.6, with the equivalent of 2½ district Midwives,
and the rest of Willesden is divided into five areas with a Municipal Midwife resident within
each of the areas.
The Municipal Midwifery Service is linked up with the Ante-natal Clinics held at the Municipal
Health Centres.
Maternity Nursing for the whole of Willesden is undertaken by the Willesden District Nursing
