It will therefore be observed that the estimated costs are as follows:—

Nurse Living In.Nurse Living Out.
Estimated value of emoluments per week.Estimated value of emoluments while on duty per week.Average payments made by nurse in respect of living out per week.
35/—14/1126/3
35/—41/2

It will therefore be observed that it is estimated that it would be cheaper so far as the Council
is concerned for nurses to live in rather than live out although the exact ramifications of the addition
of considerable numbers to the living-in staff are difficult to estimate.
On the other hand it would not be equitable to reckon the value of the emoluments for superannuation
purposes of a nurse living in at 35/- and the value of the emoluments of a nurse living out
at 41/2. It is therefore suggested that it would probably be fair if for superannuation purposes the
value of emoluments of a nurse whether living in or living out were reckoned at 40/- per week. In
order that this may be apportioned in the case of a living-out nurse, it is suggested that 10/- of this
should be reckoned as the value of the emoluments the nurse receives while on duty and that 30/- should
be reckoned to be the cost of the provision the nurse has to make for living out. Such an apportionment
compares with the following living-out allowances decided upon by the London County Council:
