(3) The Medical Officer of Health submitted to the Hospital Visiting Committee on the 27th
May, 1936, a report on the cost of living of nurses. In this report it was estimated that the living costs
to the Council of a living-in nurse were 41/- per week. This estimate has been again revised by the
Medical Officer of Health in conjunction with the Stewards of the Municipal and Maternity Hospitals,
and they are of opinion that this cost is probably more nearly 35/- per week.
The Medical Officer of Health has also estimated the cost of living of living-out nurses. This
cost comes under two categories:—
(a) Emoluments received while on duty.
This has been estimated by the Medical Officer of Health in conjunction with the
Stewards of the Hospitals at 14/11 per week.
(b) Payments by nurses in respect of accommodation, etc., provided outside the Hospital.
The Medical Officer has obtained from nurses at present living out and on a 56-60
hours' working week their actual costs which are as follows:—
Municipal Hospital—
Staff Nurse 33/- per week.
