Extension of Maternity Hospital.
The Chairman of the Health Committee reported that he had had the question of the
extension of the Maternity Hospital under consideration with the Medical Officer of Health and the
Engineer.
Present Accommodation. -At the present time there are 24 beds in the general wards and
2 beds for isolation purposes at this hospital. The bookings for confinement in the hospital in
1932 were 544, and approximately the same number, estimated at 560, will be booked during 1933.
In both years the hospital has been utilised to capacity. The Council will remember that owing
to the demand for confinement in this hospital the bookings have been restricted to 45 per month
since January 26th, 1932.
