THE THIRTEENTH ANNUAL REPORT
for the
Year 1930,
on
DENTAL WORK in connection with SCHOOL CHILDREN,
EXPECTANT and NURSING MOTHERS and CHILDREN
under 5 years.
By E. A. JENNINGS, L.D.S., R.C.S.Eng.
SCHOOL DENTAL SERVICE.
During the year several important changes have occurred, the outstanding feature being the
opening of Health Centre 3 at Stonebridge Park on April 8th, by the Minister of Health.
The New Clinic.—The Centre is an entirely new building constructed on modern lines with
all rooms arranged on one floor. There is a large entrance and waiting hall with clerical office adjoining.
A series of rooms is equipped in the right wing of the main building for sunlight, orthopaedic and
X-ray treatment. In the central portion are the doctors' consulting rooms and in the left wing
complete accommodation is made for two Dental Surgeons.
The dental suite comprises :—Two operating rooms, one waiting and one recovery room, all
suitably placed and inter-communicating. This arrangement allows patients who have received
treatment and others waiting to pass from room to room without disturbance. All rooms are
appropriately furnished, lighted and heated. Each operating room is equipped with the necessary
dental requisites including electric engine and sterilizer. The dental chairs are of the latest pattern
and accommodate both small children and adults.
Anaesthetics.—The appointment of an expert Anaesthetist marks another advance which
will contribute largely to the success of the Council's scheme. The Council also by sanctioning the
installation of the latest type of gas oxygen apparatus have enabled the Anaesthetist to render his
best services and professional skill. A separate contribution on the technique and advantages of
the apparatus is made in other pages of the Annual Report by the Anaesthetist, Dr. Jarman, and
there is no need to make further reference here. The total number of administrations of general
anaesthetic by the Anaesthetist since appointment in May to the end of the year is 2,485.
Dental Staff.—With the appointment of additional dentists and dental nurses at Health
Centre 3 the total dental staff now consists of four dental surgeons, four fully trained nurses and
one anaesthetist. Extra nursing assistance is provided on general anaesthetic sessions.
Re Distribution of Work.—The opening of a third Health Centre necessitated the re-distribution
of the work formerly undertaken by Health Centres 1 and 2. This has been effected as set out
in tne Table below.
