Also particular classes in Stonebridge, Wesley Road and Acton Lane Schools seem to have been affected, viz.:—

(1) Stonebridge School—
(a) In the Infants' School:—
Average Age.Average No. in Class.
8 cases occurred in Class D.6½ —845—50

(3) Acton Lane School—
In the Infants' Department:—
4 cases occurred in Class iii.5—650
2 „ „ „ C5—650

Then an attempt was made to link up the various cases occurring in the same class by comparing
the cases under the following headings:—
(a) Last date on which the case attended school.
(b) Date of onset of the symptoms.
(c) Date of removal to Isolation Hospital.
In the case of Stonebridge School with the possible exception of three cases, 2 of which were in
the Infants' Department and 1 in the Girls' Department which from a comparison of the above
headings may have been infected from the preceding case in the class, it was impossible to establish
a link between the remaining 36 cases which could be furnished by school attendance.
In the case of Wesley Road School with one possible exception, and also in the case of Acton
Lane School, this attempt was also unsuccessful. Hence except in the isolated examples given above
the spread could not be attributed to school attendance.
Milk Supply.
An effort to trace the infection to the Milk Supply was also made.
(1) The Milk Supply of the families in which the cases had occurred was investigated, and
it was found that different dairies supplied different families living in the same street. For
example, four different dairies supplied the families in which the cases had occurred in
Shakespeare Avenue, namely:—
Retail. Wholesale.
(a) W. Dairy Milk supplied from W., Ltd.
(b) H. B. Milk supplied from Leighton Buzzard,
Aylesbury, and L. W. Dairies.
(c) P. L. Milk supplied from W. Dairy Supply
(d) W. Dairy Milk supplied from L. W. Dairies.
(2) The amount of milk consumed was comparatively small in amount, varying from 1—1½
pints daily, per family. There was only one exception to this, viz., the B. family, Brett Road,
who consumed 4 quarts of milk every day.
