The meals given by the Education Committee provide
the following daily average:—
Protein 29 grams.
Fat 25 „
Carbohydrate 110 „
or, approximately, half the total required.
The average cost per meal of school meals for food only
for the year ended 31st March, 1910, was 2.174d.
The total cost per meal, that is including charges for
rent, fuel, lighting, supervision, etc., was 4.861d.
At the present time (August, 1916), the average cost
per meal of the same meals for food only is 2.85d.
It will therefore be noted that to supply a child of
10 years with its physiological requirements in respect of
food only costs approximately 2.85.x 2 per day, or 3s. 4d.
for a week of seven days.
