Open Air School for Physically Defective Children, and they
are now prepared to approve the proposal.
“2. The Board note from the letter under reply that,
although the present proposal relates only to the erection of
an Open Air School for 240 Physically Defective Children,
the Authority, when choosing the site, had in view possible
developments in regard to their work of educating defective
children. They note from the figures supplied in the
statement by the School Medical Officer, which accompanied
Dr. Bridge's letter of the 18th October last (F) that, as
regards Physically Defective Children alone, there is reason
to anticipate that increased accommodation will be required
in the not distant future. The Board further understand
that a portion of the proposed site would be suitable for the
erection of a school for Mentally Defective Children, should
the Authority decide in the future to utilise it for such purpose.
“The Board's formal approval of the site is enclosed.
The plan of the site is returned herewith.
“3. The plans of the proposed building, which accompanied
Mr. Jobbins' letter of the 6th March, 1913, have also
been considered by the Board, who desire to invite the attention
of the Authority to the following points:—
“(a) As regards the type of building, a quite simple form
of construction of the nature of weather boarded
sheds would, in the Board's opinion, serve the purpose
intended, and would be less expensive than a
building of the Dœcker type, as shown on the plan.
“(b) The arrangements of the buildings should be considered
carefully from the point of view of the uses
to which the remainder of the site may be put in
the future.
