through the coming into operation of the Act and Regulations
dealing with Mentally Defective Children.
Disturbance of School Arrangements by Medical
Inspection.β€” This is minimised as far as practicable, and
dates and hours are altered when possible to suit the convenience
of teachers and the schools generally. A Health
Visitor visits the school at least two days prior to medical
inspection to weigh and measure each child and examine
as to cleanliness. The cards are left until the day of medical
inspection with the Head Teacher, who makes notes with
respect to certain items of the schedule, viz.: Date of
Admission, Standard, Regularity, Speech, Mental Condition,
and Hearing. If the Head Teacher considers any of these
matters abnormal they receive special attention when the
Assistant Medical Officer examines the child. After the
visit of the Assistant Medical Officer, the Health Visitor
brings back the completed cards for abstraction and filing.
In respect of schools now in process of erection, the
Education Committee is making special provision for Medical
Inspection so that school arrangements may be disturbed
to the least possible extent and Medical Inspection conducted
under the best possible circumstances.
