INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD.
(a) Milk.
I am indebted to Mr. Robinson, Chief Officer of the
Public Control Department of the Middlesex County Council
for the following particulars of the action taken under the
Milk and Dairies (Consolidation) Act, 1915.
During the year 1934, fifteen samples of Milk were
taken from retailers in the district. The samples were submitted
to the Lister Institute for animal inoculation tests
for the presence of tubercle bacilli. One sample was found
to contain living tubercle bacilli, and was traced to a farm
in Buckinghamshire. The County Medical Officer of Buckinghamshire
subsequently reported that after examination of
the herd at this farm two cows were slaughtered under the
Tuberculosis Order, 1925.
Routine examination of milch cattle was carried out
during the year by Mr. Reginald Wooff, M.R.C.V.S., the
County Council's whole-time veterinary inspector; 375 inspections
of cows were carried out in Wembley, and 197
inspections in Kingsbury, but none of these cows was found
to be suffering from tuberculosis.
