Housing Applications
The staff of the Public Health Department work in close liaison
with that of the Housing Department. I myself have frequent
meetings with Miss Grey to review and discuss cases regarding
medical priority. The Public Health Inspectors also are often called
upon to visit housing applicants in order to make a report on their
living conditions. The number cvf visits for this purpose was 46 as
against 83 in 1963.
Food Hygiene
As in previous years, considerable attention has been given by
the Public Health Inspectors to the storage, distribution and sale
of food at the various food premises in the Borough. For this
purpose, the Inspectors made 1,150 visits to food premises during
1964. Generally speaking, the standard of food hygiene maintained
by the food traders is good. Arising out of these visits, however,
it was found necessary in 47 instances to require the occupiers of
food premises to remedy matters which were in contravention of
the Food Hygiene Regulations. In all cases, I am pleased to be
able to report the matters were attended to without recourse by
the Council to legal proceedings.
Legal proceedings, however, were instituted by the Council
under the Food and Drugs Act 1955, in respect of the following
offences:
Sale of loaf containing portion of Firm fined £15 plus
adhesive bandage costs
Sale of loaf containing piece of Firm fined £20 .plus
adhesive tape costs
Sale of loaf containing a metal screw Firm fined £50 plus
costs
