Repairs toi Houses
During the year under review, the Public Health Inspectors
have been actively engaged on work in connection with repairs to
houses. Their efforts have resulted in repairs being carried out at
378 houses, the repairs varying from those of a major character to
minor repairs to abate specific nuisances.
The repairs referred to were carried out mainly as a result of
informal action. Only in 31 instances was it found necessary to
follow-up informal action by the service of Statutory Notices.
In three instances it became necessary for the Council to
institute legal proceedings to secure compliance with Statutory
Notices requiring the execution of repairs. Court Orders were
obtained and the works were subsequently carried out.
Unfit Houses
During 1964, further progress was made in the implementation
of the Council's programme for dealing with unfit houses.
