Rivers and Streams
During the year under review, one complaint was received
concerning a minor nuisance from a stream in the Borough. This
was dealt with immediately.
Prevention of Damage by Pests Act, 1949
During 1960, 341 complaints of rats and mice were received
and dealt with, as against 438 in 1959.
In April 1960, a baiting and poisoning treatment was carried
out by the Borough Engineer's Department in the Council's soil
sewers. 346 manholes were baited. The poison bait used for this
treatment was pinhead oatmeal plus warfarin. In 84 of the manholes
baited, complete or part takes of bait were noted.
In November 1960, a further baiting and poisoning treatment
was carried out in the Council's soil sewers. On this occasion, the
treatment was preceeded by a 10% test of the total manholes on
the soil sewers. Following this test baiting, 348 manholes were
baited with pinhead oatmeal plus warfarin. In 58 of the manholes
baited, complete or part takes of bait were noted.
All work in the sewers was carried out in accordance with the
recommendations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and
Food.
