Unfit Houses.
During 1957, following reports of unfitness for habitation, the
Council made two Closing Orders under the Housing Acts, one in
respect of the basement rooms at 17 Upper Park Road, N.ll, and

Further to the reference in my Annual Report for 1956 regarding
the Council's five-year programme for dealing with unfit houses,
approval was received in 1957 from the Minister of Housing and
Local Government to a Compulsory Purchase Order in respect of
38 houses in two Clearance Areas in New Southgate.
The Council, during 1957, declared a further three areas, comprising
20 houses, to be Clearance Areas under the Housing Acts,
and resolved to deal with two areas by way of acquisition by agreement
with the owners and to deal with the third area by way of a
Clearance Order.
