Our Open Air Swimming Bath is not only a very desirable
amenity, it provides a valuable means of safeguarding health and
raising resistance against infection and disease. For this reason, the
anticipated scheme whereby a more fully organised attempt is to be
made to encourage school children to use the Bath, either singly or
in conducted parties, is cordially welcomed.
The Swimming Bath is inspected by the Public Health Department
staff throughout the season, and samples are regularly taken of
the water. These samples are sent to the Central Public Health
Laboratory for examination. The results of the samples taken
during the year showed that the water was in a satisfactory condition.
The various visits to the Bath also showed that the Bath Superintendent
and her staff were carrying out their responsible duties in an
admirable manner.
Rivers and Streams.—Complaints continue to be received
from time to time regarding unpleasant odours from Pymmes Brook.
It will be remembered that this was a continuous source of complaint
during pre-war years. The matter was then fully investigated, and
it would not now appear that there is any point in taking further
action.
Rats and Mice Destruction Act.—Work under the above
Act was carried out during the year in accordance with the procedure
set out in the Annual Report for 1944. During the year, 5,729
visits were made; treatments were carried out at 198 premises.
