Laboratory Service has also been of great help in arranging short
courses on Food Hygiene. Three such courses are being arranged
for Sanitary Inspectors, with the prospect of additional courses for
Canteen Supervisors and Canteen Staff.
General practitioners are beginning to make very good use of
the laboratory services, the extent and variety of which have been
repeatedly brought to their attention. The Public Health Department
has also called on the Laboratory staff on several occasions,
particularly in connection with outbreaks of infection in our Day
Nurseries. In every instance, co-operation was immediate and of
considerable assistance.
It is probable that the present laboratory service will be extended
in the relatively near future, by the establishment of branch laboratories
throughout the county. Consultations have already taken
place on the siting of these branch laboratories, which should
provide an even more intimate and easily accessible service,
especially for general practitioners.
