TYPHOID FEVER (including Paratyphoid) No case of
typhoid fever was notified during the year, as against
1 in 1942.
PUERPERAL PYREXIA. Twelve cases of puerperal pyrexia
were notified during the year, as against 24 in 1942
and 6 in 1941. In addition to these notified cases, the
Registrar General reported two maternal deaths which
occurred in an institution outside the district.
ERYSIPELAS. Thirty-three cases of erysipelas were
notified during the year, compared with 12 in 1942,
20 in 1941 and 22 in 1940.
TUBERCULOSIS. Sixty-five cases of pulmonary and 13
cases of non-pulmonary tuberculosis were notified
during the year, the corresponding figures for 1942
being, pulmonary 60, non-pulmonary 12. In addition
to these notified cases, 18 patients (16 pulmonary)
were entered in the register, including 4 restored
to the register, being new residents in the district,
previously notified elsewhere.
SCABIES AND LICE. During 1943, 69 patients were sent
to Hornsey Cleansing Station for treatment for scabies
and 5 for head vermin. The treatment of women and
children at" the F.A.P, at Cirovelands was commenced
on March 17th, and has been continued very satisfactorily.
This consists of a hot bath and painting with
benzyl benzoate emulsion, a second painting, being
given two days later.
Since the commencement, the following patients have
been treated:
123 for scabies.
14 for head vermin.
14 for impetigo.
The treatment has generally been very successful
and the Health Committee is very indebted to the
personnel of the First Aid Post for their valuable
services in this connection.
