Sanitary Circumstances of the Area.
Water.—The circumstances as to the water supply of the
district remain as set out in the report for 1934, and continue
satisfactory.
The Ministry of Health now requires that information relating
to any infection which might be water-borne should be transmitted
to the responsible water authority, in. our case the Metropolitan
Water Board. This is being done.
Swimming Bath.—The figures of the attendances at the
Barrowell Green Open-Air Swimming Bath for the last two years
were as follows :—
1936. 1937.
Mixed Bathers, Adults 21,688 22.922
Mixed Bathers, Children 24,174 23,925
Season Ticket Holders
(attendances) 15,497 15,278
Totals 61,359 62,125
Spectators, Adults 2,414 2,895
Spectators, Children 1,000 1,019
Broomfield Park Swimming Lake.—Further samples of the
water from this lake were taken in October and December of last
year, the appropriate reports being submitted to the Public Health
Committee. The steps taken following the reception of these reports
will be dealt with in the Annual Report for 1938. as they properly
belong to that period. It need only be stated here that the Public
Health Committee considered the analyses unsatisfactory, and that
recommendation was made that the lake be closed for swimming.
Rivers and Streams.—Very few complaints have been received
regarding unpleasant odours from neighbouring sewage
farms.
Drainage and Sewerage.—The arrangements for drainage,
sewerage, and sewage disposal remain materially as set out in the
Report for 1930.
In a district such as Southgate, this work must proceed at a
fast pace, in order that the development of the district may receive
proper attention.
