houses affected, to discourage the entry of crickets into the actual
premises and to destroy them if and when they were discovered
therein. These measures controlled the outbreak, although it was
several months before normal conditions could be resumed. Special
assistance had to be obtained to carry out this work, the approximate
cost of the operations totalling £294. A commercial firm, which
claims to deal specially with the cricket problem, has been consulted
in the hope of preventing a recurrence of the nuisance during 1936.
The position is being carefully watched, and, if necessary, a
prepared plan can be put into immediate operation.
Several complaints as to flies were received from householders
around the destructor during the year, but it was possible to check
this nuisance by the removal of a great bulk of the material suitable
for fly incubation. Adequate measures to deal with the flies inside
the houses were also carried out, the complaints ceasing after a
very short time.
The system of refuse collection as outlined in the Report for
last year remains practically unaltered, with the exception of certain
operative details, and appears to be working satisfactorily. Minor
complaints continue to be received and are dealt with by the
Surveyor's Department.
