Water Supply.— Practically the whole District is now
supplied by the Metropolitan Water Board. There are now
only 9 wells left from which water is obtained for drinking.
These are scattered about North Southgate. There was reason
to analyse the water from 5 wells, all of which proved to be
unsatisfactory. Two of these will be closed and the remainder
cleansed.
Watercourses —Bounds Green Brook and Pymmes Brook
remain in about the same condition. The periodical cleaning by
the Middlesex County Council helps to keep them from getting
very foul.
House Refuse Collection.—Refuse and dust are collected
from almost every house weekly and taken to the Dust
Destructor which was opened in May.
This is a very great addition to the sanitary works of the
District, and does away with much trouble and anxiety in the
disposal of house refuse.
Collection of Fish Offal.—Air-tight receptacles have been
provided by the Council, in which fish offal is collected fish
shops from one to three times a week, according to the weather
and the quantity of fish consumed locally. It is then carted to
a convenient shoot acquired by the Council for the purpose, and
there disposed of. A small charge is madefcthe fishmongers to
cover expenses.
During the year 1,041 pails were collected, as against 1,126
in the preceding year.
