(ix) Domestic Helps.
This service has continued to spread, especially with the
demands of the Harold Hill Estate, where so many residents,
because of a physical hardship, have had a priority for re-housing.
This is one of the problems inseparable from an Estate of this
nature.
These demands have been met to the best of our ability, and, at
the end of the year, approximately 97 part-time helps were employed
throughout the whole district, and, during the year, the helps gave
assistance in 507 individual cases.
A limited number have continued to carry out duties in households
where there is a case of tuberculosis. As a precautionary
measure, these helps are first referred to the Chest Physician.
Whilst working, they are provided with protective clothing, and are
given a list of instructions on precautionary measures to be adopted
in the home.
(x) Day Nurseries.
The three day nurseries have again been working to full capacity,
and a fairly large waiting list has been maintained at each.
Because of this waiting list, the Health Area Sub-Committee drew
up a system of priorities for admissions, and this is now in operation.
The question of the provision of two additional nurseries, and the
extension of the "St. Moritz" nursery is still under consideration.
The average attendance for the year at each nursery was as
follows :—

The "St. Moritz" Nursery and the Collier Row Nursery are
scheduled to take forty children each, and the Rush Green Nursery,
fifty children.
(xi) Dental Service.
There is nothing to add to what I have already said as to the
total inadequacy of this service, and the position remains the same
as before.
The following gives particulars of the service :—
