Slaughterhouses :
No animals were killed at slaughterhouses within the district.
Milk Sampling :
The informal sampling of milk, discontinued during 1944, by reason of
pressure of other work, was resumed during the second half of the year.
Chemical Examination.
The analyses of 35 informal samples obtained, all of which were
genuine, show the following averages :-
Fat: 3.63% .. Solids non-Fat : 8.76%
Bacteriological Examination.
(a) Sixteen samples of milk were submitted for Methylene Blue and
Phosphatase tests, and satisfied the tests.
(b) Two of the samples included in (a) being Tuberculin Tested Milk
were also submitted to bacteriological tests and found to be
satisfactory.

Ice Cream :

Thirty-six samples of ice cream were submitted to the Methylene Blue test. The results of the examinations were as follows :-

No samples were found to be consistently below Group 2.
Three samples of strawberry ice-cream were submitted for bacteriological
examination and found to be satisfactory.
One sample of choc-ice cream submitted for bacteriological examination
was found to be unsatisfactory.
Adulteration :
The Kent County Council's Inspectors took 152 samples of various foods
in this district, of which 149 were found to be genuine.
One sample of fish paste was 11.4% deficient in fish content, due to inadequate
mixing. The Manufacturers were cautioned.
One sample of Mustard contained wheat flour which is an ingredient which
should have been declared on the label. Amended labels were brought into use.
One sample of Aspirin Tablets was reported as “ Inferior.” Further
samples taken from the same source were found to be “ Genuine.”
