The average period spent in the Home during the year
by each patient was 14.57 days.
Patients can be attended at the Home by their own
Doctors if they wish.
Prior to the establishment by the Kent County Council
of a domiciliary service of midwives, those who desired it
could be attended in their own homes by a qualified midwife
from the Maternity Home. She was assisted by a probationer
nurse. During the eight months ended 31st August, 48 Penge
cases were attended by the visiting Midwives.

by applicants. The Authorities have arranged for the erection
of a new Joint Maternity Home containing 38 beds and
building operations in connection therewith commenced at the
beginning of 1938.
Institutional Provision for Mothers or Children.
Maternity patients whose home conditions are unsuitable

conditions, are admitted into the Penge and Beckenham
Joint Maternity Home.
