A consulting obstetrician is available for complicated
maternity cases occurring in the District and in the Joint
Maternity Home.
Maternity Home.
The Penge and Beckenham Joint Maternity Home,
Croydon Road, Beckenham, with accommodation for fourteen
beds, is managed by a Joint Committee appointed annually
by the Penge Urban District Council and the Beckenham
Borough Council, and receives a grant from the Ministry of
Health.
The facilities provided are intended for those who have
not sufficient accommodation, or are unable to pay for,
adequate attention in their own homes.
Necessitous cases, after due enquiry by the Committee,
are granted free admission to the Home.
The following table gives the numbers of mothers admitted annually for the last five years :—
