Sanitary Inspection of the Area; and Shops.
These subjects are dealt with in the Report of the Chief
Sanitary Inspector.
Smoke Abatement.
Smoke nuisances were found at two factories and abated
after informal action.
Swimming Baths and Pools.
There are none in the area.
Schools.
The School Medical Officer, the Medical Inspectors and
the Head Teachers are notified of cases of infectious diseases
that occur in the homes of children attending school. Attendance
from infected houses is prohibited for certain periods.
Eradication of Bed Bugs.
Bed bugs were found in four Council houses and 61 other
houses, all of which were disinfected.
The methods employed for freeing houses of bed bugs
are to require the stripping of paper from the walls and the
loosening of woodwork in the rooms. The Council's workman
then sprays the room with an insecticide and burns sulphur
candles therein, the openings in the rooms being sealed. When
considered necessary, the bedding is removed and steam
disinfected.
