Drainage and Sewerage.
All the premises in the district are connected to the public
sewers. The sewage of Penge goes through the Metropolitan
Borough of Lewisham into the London County Council system
of sewers, and a part of the surface water into a local stream,
which is culverted in certain parts.
Rivers and Streams.
There are no rivers in the District. There is a stream
forming part of the boundary between Penge and Beckenham,
portions of which are culverted. It was necessary for cleansing
to be carried out periodically. During the year the Penge and
Beckenham Councils commenced the culverting of another
portion of the stream between Avenue Road and Pelham
Road, and the work was completed early in 1937. The culverting
of the remaining portion of the stream is desirable.
Closet Accommodation.
The whole of the premises—approximately 5,635—in the
area, are provided with water-closets connected to the main
drainage system.
Public Cleansing.
The house refuse is collected throughout the District
by a Contractor, once every week.
The refuse is removed in closed vehicles by the Contractor
to a controlled shoot situated in another district.
The total cost of collection, removal and disposal of house
refuse during the year amounted to £6,298.
There are no cesspools or privies within the District.
