A consulting obstetrician has now been appointed for
complicated maternity cases occurring in the District.
Previously his services were available only for patients in the
Joint Maternity Home.
Maternity Home.
The Penge and Beckenham Joint Maternity Home,
Croydon Road, Beckenham, with accommodation for 14 beds,
is managed by a Joint Committee appointed annually by the
Penge Urban District Council,and the Borough of Beckenham,
and receives a grant from the Ministry of Health.
The facilities provided are intended for those who have
not sufficient accommodation, or are unable to pay for,
adequate attention in their own homes.
One necessitous case, after due enquiry by the Committee,
was granted free admission to the Home.
The following table gives the numbers of mothers admitted annually for the last five years :—
