April, 1926.
To the Chairman and Members of the Urban District
Council of Penge.
Gentlemen,
I beg to present my Seventeenth Annual Report on
the Health of the District for the year ending December 31st,
1925.
It is compiled in accordance with the Memorandum
of the Ministry of Health, issued in December, 1925, and forms
the first of a series of "Survey Reports," which will be
required at intervals of five years.
NATURAL AND SOCIAL CONDITIONS OF THE
AREA.
Area (acres) 770
Population (Census, 1921) 26,430
Population (Estimated middle of 1925, R.G.) 27,340
The District is healthily situated on the slope of a hill,
its highest point being 370 feet above sea level.
The Crystal Palace and greater part of the grounds,
occupying approximately 127 acres, are within the District.
About 20 acres of the grounds were recently opened to the
public, thus supplying another much-needed recreation ground
for the neighbourhood.
