The amount of labour, however, involved in the
calculation and use of so many specific death rates, necessitates
their combination into a single rate, which, after allowance
for age and sex, is then said to be standardized.
The Registrar-General has calculated this year
standardizing factors for correcting the death rate for each
Urban and Rural District with a population of 10,000 or over
at the last Census. The factor for this District is 0.853, thus
making the standardized death rate 9.2 per 1,000, instead of
10.8.
Of the total 296 deaths during the year, 76, or 25.6
per centum, were 75 years of age and upwards, and 135, or 45.6
per centum, were over 65 years.
