HOUSING.
(1) General Housing Conditions in the District.
Total number of houses in the district 4934
Number of dwelling houses for the working
classes 2007
New houses for the working classes built
during the year or in course of erection Nil
The Council has a scheme in hand for the erection of
217 houses. One house was converted into two flats by the
owner.
(2) Overcrowding.
I think that if a block of workmen's self-contained
flats comprising two or three fair sized rooms with a W.C.
and small scullery could be provided and let at an inclusive
rental of about 10s. per week, it would be a good way of
dealing with this matter.
Five cases of overcrowding were abated during the
year.
(3) Fitness of Houses.
The general standard of the housing is good. There
are four back-to-back houses in the District, but these have
ample space around them.
(4) Unhealthy Areas.
There are none.
