Population.
The Registrar General's estimate of the total population of the
Urban District, mid-year 1961, was 80,080, which is an increase of
4,060 over the figure for the previous year. This population figure
gives a density of 3.85 persons to the acre.
The natural increase of population, measured by excess of births
over deaths, was 547.
The population figure given in the Preliminary Report on the
1961 Census was 80,277, of which number 38,578 were males and
41,699 females. The intercensal increase (1951-1961) was 16,913
persons or 26.7 per cent. increase in population.
