RAT INFESTATION.
The Council has employed since the 18th May a Rodent Operative,
who works under the direct supervision of the Chief Sanitary
Inspector, in respect of which appointment a proportion of the salary
is repaid to the Council by the Ministry of Food.
During the year 579 inspections of premises suspected to be
infested by rats were carried out by the Public Health Department.
The Council undertakes the work of disinfestation of private
premises on the application of the Owner or Occupier, and during
the year 14 such cases were dealt with.
Disinfestations were also carried out at the premises under the
Council's control or ownership.
An initial campaign in connection with certain of the Council's
soil sewers was carried out in accordance with the direction of the
Ministry of Food, and from the amount of poison consumed at 114
points baited, it is estimated that a considerable number of rats were
destroyed.
