Dental Inspection and Treatment
I am indebted to Mr.A.E.Hall, the Senior Dental Officer, who has submitted the
following comments on the work of the School Dental Service in Leyton during 1962:-
"The Dental Auxiliaries Experimental Scheme which the Privy Council have required
the General Dental Council to carry out in accordance with Section 43 of the Dentist's
Act of 1957:-
The first batch of these auxiliaries finished their training and were ready for
employment with Local Authorities in August 1962 and Miss Cladingbowl commenced duties
in this Area on 10th September, 1962. An interim report on her work was made to the
General Dental Council in December.
The scope of her work is to do simple extractions of temporary teeth under local
anaesthesia, to fill temporary and permanent teeth with simple fillings, the topical
application of certain medicaments, and the scaling and polishing of teeth. Lecturing
and instructing children on dental hygiene and the general care of the teeth is an
important part of her work, which has been appreciated both in schools and in the
clinics.
A second dental surgery was opened at Leyton Green Clinic in October of this year
