CHIROPODY CLINICS
There are two chiropodists working in each of the Health Services Clinics and
children are accepted for treatment on referral from the Minor Ailment Clinic or from
their private practitioners. There is no waiting list, and children are seen by appointment
within a few days of the doctor's request.
A copy of a report is set out below on an outbreak of plantar warts at a Leyton
secondary modern school which was submitted by the chiropodist who investigated the
outbreak and treated the children.
"During 1959 sixty-six pupils received treatment at the Foot Clinic, Dawlish Road,
for plantar warts. Of that number, 48 have been discharged and 18 are still attending
the Clinic.
Because of the large number of pupils reporting for treatment in the early months
of the year a foot inspection was held on the 15th May, 1959. Twenty-six new cases
were found as a result, and of that number 6 were attending their own doctor, 3 were
