Many of the cases referred there belong to families who would not trouble to go to
hospital but will come to the clinic that is near their homes and where the waiting
time is very much less than with hospital appointments
Twenty-one of the thirty-two new cases required hospital referral as noted below.
Removal of Tonsils and Adenoids 7
Removal of Adenoids 3
Removal of Polypi 1
Antral Lavage 2
Mastoidectomy 1
X-ray sinuses 3
Further investigation 4
OPHTHALMIC CLINIC AND ORTHOPTIC CLINIC
The Ophthalmic Clinic under the Ophthalmic Consultant, Dr. A.Logan Adam, continues
to work to capacity and the Orthoptist, Mrs. S, Box, is investigating many more children
under five years,,
As Mrs.Box is also Orthoptist at Whipps Cross Hospital under Mr.Klein, the Consultant
Ophthalmologist, co-operation exists for referral for operative treatment under
Mr. Klein.
REMEDIAL EXERCISE CLASSES
Sixty-seven children made 553 attendances.
The classes are for children who require foot and posture exercises, exercises to
improve general condition and some cases of chest disease with poor chest expansion.
The children appear to benefit and enjoy the classes.
DENTAL INSPECTION AND TREATMENT
The Senior Dental Officer's report for the year ended 31st December, 1959, is set
out below:-
"The happiest event to be recorded on the staffing side during the year under review
was the application by one of our part-time Dental Officers (Mr Arnold) for full
time employment. Even so, with the reduction in sessions worked by part-time officers
the staffing position has remained at little more than fifty per cent of establishment
