meals etc., seems to help the child.
The figure can be affected also by ail inspection taking place in school just after
an outbreak of a debilitating illness such as influenza. Therefore in such small numbers
as reported here it is unlikely that this year's increase is of any significance.

(c) Hygiene Inspection in Schools
The Nursing Staff carried out 20,828 inspections during the year and 56 cases were
found to be infested, i.e. 0.27 per cent.
Consideration had been given to reducing the number of hygiene inspections in
Infant and Junior Schools to once a year as is done in Secondary Schools because the
incidence and severity of infection was so low. Early in 1960, however, several cases
of very severe infestation were discovered in three schools and we cannot as yet reduce
this measure of control.
Actually these inspections should be called a general review inspection. The cleanliness
of the hair is only a minor point in the health visitor's survey, for she discusses
with the head teacher, and class teacher too, if necessary, any children who
appear to be in any way unsatisfactory and refers them to the School Medical Officer
for further investigation. She visits the home, and takes whatever action is considered
right in the circumstances.
