Orthopaedic Treatment.
Primary Examinations.—During the year 9 children were
referred from the Child Welfare Clinics to the Council's Orthopaedic
Surgeon. The following conditions were found:—
Pes piano valgus 4
Genu valgum 1
Digitus varus 1
Torticollis, deviation of digits 1
Rickets 1
Anterior poliomyelitis, no disability found 1
Re-examinations.—In addition to the 9 new cases mentioned
above, 34 children under five years of age attended for re-examination
by the Orthopaedic Surgeon.
The following conditions were seen at re-inspections:—
Pes piano valgus 13
Genu valgum 6
Congenital talipes 2
Genu varum 2
Lymphatic cyst-heels 1
Congenital mid tarsal varus 1
Haemangioma 1
Talipes equino varus 1
Anterior poliomyelitis 1
Naevous dorsal region 1
Flat foot 2
No disability found 3
Provision of Surgical Appliances.
Alterations to surgical boots or new appliances were supplied
to 25 children as follows:—
24 Minor alterations (wedges).
1 Metal splint.
X-Rays.
Arrangements were made for one child to be X-rayed.
Admission to Hospital.
No children under 5 years of age were admitted to hospital.
