Scarlet Fever is still with us, and there occurred last year
some 166 cases, of whom it was found necessary to remove only
35 to hospital. The mild type of scarlet fever now prevalent has
caused only one death in Leyton in the last ten years. In the
same period at the end of last century the very virulent type of the
disease accounted for some 118 Leyton deaths.
