As in previous years, the number of boys referred to the Psychologist was more than double the number of girls.

Of these, 117 were later referred to the Child Guidance Clinic for
a fuller investigation. Of these children, 39 were girls and 78 boys.
The reasons for requests to the Psychologist for individual
examination were:—
1. Educational Advice:
(a) Backwardness 135
(b) Other educational problems 14
2. Problems of behaviour:
(a) At School 46
(b) At home 38
3. Reports needed by Juvenile Court or Probation
Officer 17
4. Other evidence of maladjustment, e.g. stammer,
enuresis, tics, asthma, etc. 12
Some children may be referred for more than one reason, e.g.,
backwardness and behaviour disorders.
During the year the Psychologist has given one course of
lectures to teachers on "Problems in the Primary and Secondary
School", and also separate lectures to Parents' Association meetings,
etc. She lectured on two occasions to students at Wansfell Residential
Adult College. The Psychologist also assisted at a six-day
residential course for teachers at St. Osyth's Training College,
Clacton, in July.
Remedial teaching has been continued with certain children
selected by the Psychiatrist. Eight children attended for this
during the year, and received a total of 165 lessons.
All the children received some help with reading and two
