Many patients also received free Milk, on a Chest Physician's
recommendation, under the County Council's Scheme and the
Association assist in bringing suitable cases to the notice of the
Chest Physician and this benefit is much appreciated by the
recipients.
Another item extablished is a library of books for distribution
to tuberculosis sufferers, and many take advantage of this. The
Association's thanks are accorded to Mr. E. Sydney, the Borough
Librarian, for kindly providing the books from withdrawn copies,
for this service.
Mass Radiography.
The year 1946 was the last occasion when inhabitants and
workers in the Borough had the opportunity of availing themselves
of Mass Radiography.
Towards the end of the year arrangements were made for a
visit to Leyton of Unit 6.B, and it is hoped that the Unit will then
be able to remain sufficiently long in the area to allow an opportunity
for mass radiography to be offered to every inhabitant in the
Borough.
Five years is much too long an interval between two successive
visits of a Mass Radiography Unit to any area; and it is hoped
that the Regional Hospital Board may soon be able to arrange for
more frequent visits.
Loan of Sick Room Equipment.
During the year 14 articles of sick room equipment were loaned
on the recommendation of doctors, hospital almoners, etc.
In September, 1950, the Health Area Sub-Committee decided
to extend the service by the purchase of £140's worth of equipment,
to set up in the area a central store at the Health Offices for
relatively large equipment, and to extend the stores at the County
Training Home, Beachcroft Road, E.ll.
