Orthopaedic Treatment.
Primary Examinations.—During the year 35 children were
referred from the Child Welfare Clinics to the Council's Orthopaedic
Surgeon.
Re-examinations.—In addition to the 35 new cases mentioned
above, 73 children under five years of age attended for re-examination
by the Orthopaedic Surgeon.
The following conditions were found on examination :—
Pes piano valgus.
Genu valgum.
Genu varum.
Congenital talipes.
Congenital synostosis.
Congenital enlargement of limb.
Acute poliomyelitis.
Bowed tibiae.
Lymphatic cyst.
Kyphosis.
Haemiplegia.
In-toeing.
Tibial deformity.
Provision of Surgical Appliances.
Alterations to surgical boots or new appliances were supplied
to 56 children as follows :—
46 Minor alterations (wedges).
4 Surgical alterations to boots.
3 Valgus T. straps and sockets to calipers.
1 Valgus pad and wedges.
1 Caliper repaired.
1 Pair genu valgum braces.
Admission to Hospital.
One child was admitted to Hospital and the following operation
was performed by the Orthopaedic Consultant Surgeon :—
Manipulation and application of bilateral leg.
Special Eye Clinic.
The Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon had referred by the
Clinic Medical Officers 159 pre-school children, who made 178
attendances for examination and treatment.
