A very pleasing feature noticed during the survey of dwelling
houses has been the high standard of cleanliness maintained by
the occupiers, and the improvement in environmental conditions.
Where unsatisfactory circumstances were found to exist, they were
largely caused by the want of better and more adequate accommodation
and amenities. In many cases, want of privacy, sharing of
amenities, etc., created almost an intolerable position.
Enquiries are constantly being received from other Local
Authorities in connection with residents of Leyton applying for
housing accommodation elsewhere; 89 such enquiries were received
during 1949.
