Observations.
These figures disclose that the severity of symptoms, as judged
by the necessity of removal to hospital, was much greater among
those who consumed the fish in their own homes than among those
who ate it at the party ; in fact the only person in the latter
category who was removed to hospital was not seriously ill, and
was removed more for public health reasons than for treatment.
Progress of Cases.
All infected persons made uninterrupted recoveries, and
bacteriological investigation showed that by 1st September, 1948
all persons infected were quite free from infection.
